iPhone Problems: Why are Canadians being charged so much?

So apparently iPhone owners in Canada are all up in arms because exclusive carrier Rogers Communications is ripping their customers with over-the-top data plans, - 300 weekday minutes, 750mb data cap on 3G phones, with a three year commitment for 75 bucks a month... $93 with tax.

Compare that to AT&T's plan, which gives 3 times as much calling time, twice as many text messages and only a two year commitment, and you begin to wonder if Steve Jobs is inflating the price in Canada to make rates look more reasonable domestically.

Well, the iPhone 3G hasn't even come out yet and already the Canadians are mad as hell and don't want to take it anymore. An open petition to Steve Jobs calling on him to do something has already gathered 10,000 signatures and can be viewed at RuinedIphone.com

I'm betting it works, because while Steve Jobs does not control the pricing for Rogers Communications (he does ironically control the weather), if Jobs did speak up, even through back channels, Rogers would have a hard time challenging Jobs in the court of public opinion.
