iPhone 3G already on Apple Store for preorder
Submitted by CellGeek on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 2:51pm.
Within minutes of Steve Jobs' iPhone presentation being concluded, the Apple store already had the 3G iPhone up for preorder. Once again the big suprise is that the 8GB iPhone 3G will only cost $199, with the 16GB costing $299 and coming in white. Both prices are with AT&T contrac.
The handset will be available July 11th in 22 major markets, with the rollout eventually reaching 70 different countries.
Just a couple of other additional notes and points:
- While it the phone is faster, and features better battery time and GPS that synthesizes wi-fi and cell phone tower data, the cell phone camera has NOT been improved...
- The iPhone 2.0 software will be offered for free for all existing iPhone users online in early July. iPod Touch users will have to pay $9.95. Improvements include additional language support, including two forms of Chinese, which is notable because the iPhone still isn't offered in China; Push Notification, and iWork document support including PowerPoint, which is new.
- Much like me after high school, the iPhone 3G is a little bit thicker.
- On AT&T, an unlimited 3G data plan will be $30 a month, meaning with voice plan you'll be paying $70 a month on your cell phone. $199 or not, that's not really a bargain...
