The smoking gun in Cynthia Rodriguez's divorce case against husband, Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez might be a series of incriminating SMS messages he exchanged back and forth with the Material Girl.

The Sun reports a friend as saying Rodriguez looking like a smitten school boy while exchanging texts with Madonna, and another source added that the text messages weighed heavily in Cynthia's decision to file for divorce:

"They were instrumental in convincing her that he was besotted. The messages could be released if things get really ugly.”

For her part Madonna has been steadfast in denying any kind of affair, and I remember PTI supersub Dan Levitard saying A Rod was telling him 15 years ago how Madonna was the person he admired most, so even if he was giddy at talking to Madonna that doesn't necessarily equate to a sexual relationship.

It would be pretty ironic if it turned out the affair that finally did serial cheater Alex Rodriguez in, was the affair he didn't have.
